Existing Rules

The Georgia Environmental Protection Division (in the Department of Natural Resources), authorized by the federal Environmental Protection Agency (E.P.A.), develops and enforces rules based on Georgia (Official Code of Georgia Annotated) Statutes. Given below are the environmental rules and the corresponding laws or statutory authorizations used to protect Georgia's environment. In general, these state regulations are very similar to the federal regulations (40 CFR). The left column provides the regulations - what you must comply with - the right column provides the laws that support the regulations. Some Georgia state laws do not have corresponding rules developed by EPD.
