Many towns and cities offer curbside collection, even for Christmas trees. Counties and unicorporated areas typically have a number or drop-off locations.

Christmas trees are usually colllected from December 26th through the first 2 or 3 weeks in January.  Whether your tree is picked up from your curb,Grinding Christmas trees into mulch or you drop it off, be sure to remove all  remove all lights, wire, tinsel, ornaments, nails, stands,  other NON-Organic decorative materials and other materials that are not part of the original tree. This includes tree stands also.  Flocked trees are occasionally accepted (call to verify), but not artificial trees. Large trees (larger than the standard 6 - 7 ft tree) may need to be cut in half to be acceptable by your curbside garbage hauler.

The trees and wreathes are usually chipped and made into a mulch which is often made available, free to city or county residents.

Curbside collection

Across Prince Edward Island Christmas tree collection begins the second Monday in January.

  • Put your tree (stripped of all decorations) curbside by 7 am on Monday in early January
  • Drivers have the entire week to collect your tree (it will not necessarily be picked up on your regular collection day). If you place your tree curbside at the above time and date and it is not collected by Saturday in mid January, please notify IWMC no later than Tuesday after the third weekend
  • Do not put the tree in a bag.
  • Trees longer than 8ft or heavier than 50lb have to be cut in segments with dimensions under 4ft and 50lb.

Waste Watch Drop-Off Centers

These centers will accept residential trees at no charge during the month of January.

Drop your tree off at a farm

Some farm chip and compost the trees, other use them as fodder for pigs, goats and other animals. The following farms are identified as taking trees in January   (Of course, be sure all ornaments, tinsel, wire, etc. are removed)

  • BLOOMFIELD � M&M Stables, 38105 Western Rd, Rte 2 (drive straight up the lane to go behind the house; shed is to the right)
  • HOPE RIVER � Alexander & Sandy Farm Haven, 4018 St. Mary�s Road, Rte 224 (place trees in front yard)
  • PIUSVILLE � Spruce Corner Hobby Farm, 285 Piusville Rd, Rte 149 (place trees outside the pen)
  • ST. CHRYSTOTOME � Beach Goats, 10143, Rte 11 (place trees outside the fence where the goats are)
  • VERNON BRIDGE � Serenity Mini Farm & Vacation Home, 380 Scentia Road (place trees at the end of driveway beside Waste Watch carts)
  • WOOD ISLANDS � Emerald Isle Goat Creamery, 1231 Trans Canada Hwy, Rte 1 (place trees at the end of the business lane)
