Hazardous Waste Deep Well Injection Facilities in the United States; Facts and Locations

Commercial Hazardous Waste Deep Well Injection Facilities

Five (5) facilities identified as deep well injection facilities offer well injection either as a primary service or one of several different treatment and disposal options. Closed or noncommercial facilities listed in the previous report were contacted to confirm their status.

Generally, all facilities accept a wide range of aqueous saline wastes. These wastes include process wastewaters, complex organics, soluble heavy metals, contaminated cooling waters, and nonbiodegradable wastes. Acceptance of waste is dependent on several factors, including the amount of suspended solids and the pH. Wastes should be filterable through a five (5) -micron filter (100 ppm suspended solids maximum) and pH should be between 6.0 and 12.0.

Figure 4.1 shows the locations of the five identified commercial deep well injection facilities.

Sections 4.3.1 and 4.3.2 provide listings of the facilities alphabetically by facility and by state, respectively.

Section 4.3.3 provides facility details alphabetically by state.
